Mole Patrol - Undead Suburban Bitches

Submission for 'Welcome to the Suburbs' exhibition

‘Mole patrol – undead suburban bitches’ presents a playful parallel between the 1980s Western Sydney ‘mole patrol’ subculture and a vampire coven. While one is a suburban clique of teenage 'mean girls' and the other is a supernatural myth, both operate using the same social mechanics of intimidation, aesthetic, and hierarchy. As a teenage girl growing up in the western suburbs of Sydney in the 1980s, my local 'mole patrol' was equally fascinating and terrifying - just like vampires. Pencil, pastel, charcoal on paper (45.5 x 45.5cm).

This is my response to Newcastle Art Space's call for works that address the theme 'Welcome to the Suburbs'.
