Narrative portraits
Published and exhibited 'thought bubble' drawings - various
I use thought bubbles as a device to narrate the inner world (thoughts, memories, feelings) of a subject. I mostly use graphite pencil to draw the portraits, and a range of media such as ink, soft pastels, aquarelles for the thought bubble and background. Here is a selection of published and exhibited narrative portraits.
Exhibited work
My large format pencil and ink drawings on paper 'Lost' (67 x 56 cm), 'Addicted to love' (42 x 56 cm), and 'Big night in' (42 x 42 cm) were included in the PULP ART group exhibition, which ran at The Front Gallery in Canberra, ACT and at The Queanbeyan Hive in NSW. Other members of the PULP ART group included Sydney-based Master Printer, Janet Parker-Smith, collaborative group the Peculiar Annes, and Canberra artists Denise Moule and Hans van Haalen.
Published work
-
'Lost' was selected for publication in print and online editions of Womanly Magazine's Issue no. 5: Stressed Out!
-
I produced 'Look at me know' and 'Eat me' for publication in Womanly Magazine Issue no. 7: S-E-X, Celebrating the Spectrum: An Issue on Sexual Diversity. Each of these drawings illustrates a common sex kink or fetish. 'Eat me' illustrates sitophilia - sexual arousal caused by erotic situations involving food. 'Look at me know' illustrates sexual exhibitionism - arousal or excitement from exposing oneself in a sexual way in front of others (e.g. being watched while performing a sexual act).
-
'Conjuring animation upon lifeless matter', 'Big night in' and 'Addicted to love' were published in Light and Memory - journal of storytelling - Volume 2, Issue 1. Light and Memory is dedicated to exploring different aspects of storytelling, contributors (and their stories) reflect a range of disciplines and cultures
